Our team of passionate dog lovers will care for your furry family member as if they were their own. We like to call our boarding service a staycation for our furry guests; they enjoy all the fun of daycare during the day and expert care in the evening.
We have home-style crates and private suites available for our overnight guests. Both are great, spacious options, with the latter being ideal for siblings who want to stick together as they slumber.

We are not a kennel with traditional kennel runs where your dog spends much of the stay bored, sedentary and alone. All boarding dogs enjoy open-play daycare during their stay, just like our regular daycare dogs, which is included in the boarding rate.
Our boarding dogs sleep overnight in a home-style crate in the playroom right next to their friends, not isolated from the pack. While studies show it reduces a dog’s anxiety to sleep overnight surrounded by other dogs rather than alone in a kennel, we do have several suites that are typically available upon request at no additional charge. If you have multiple dogs and would like them to board together, we are happy to put them in a shared suite if available.
Pet parents are encouraged to bring their own dog food to keep their pup on their normal diet during their boarding stay. We can accommodate any dog food, whether dry or refrigerated, as well as any oral medication your dog needs during their stay. If you forget your food, we have our own in-house dog food that we can provide, so your dog will never go hungry.
In the morning, your pup will enjoy breakfast with their pals and gear up for an exciting day of play at daycare. They will exercise, learn, and socialize throughout the day as they boost their cardio levels with our agility-focused activities, engage in mind-stimulating brain games that strengthen their problem-solving skills, and participate in our bacon- and peanut butter-flavored bubble parties, crafts days, tasty treat days, doggie photoshoots, and more.
When noon hits, our pups hit the pause button on daycare and rest up in their crates in the same playroom while they eat lunch and nap. This is the time our team will deep-clean the playroom so it’s ready for the second half of the day. At 2:00 p.m., our dogs will be feeling recharged and ready to repeat their morning with all the fun we have planned. Our daycare dogs are picked up in the evening while our boarding guests enjoy a bit more play, eat dinner, and get ready to catch some z’s. This is always a quick process, as they are happily played out and ready to drift off to dreamland.

Our boarding dogs love coming to Dogtopia, just like our daycare dogs! We are much more than a place to leave your pup while you are away. Unlike some of the other dog care facilities, your furry friend will not be parked in a lonely kennel run most the day. Instead, they will spend their boarding stay in our open-play playrooms, exercising, playing and socializing with other dogs, and getting lots of love from our trained Canine Coaches.
Our 6,500-square-foot state-of-the-art facility includes three spacious playrooms that we separate our doggie guests into based on their size, temperament, and play style. This ensures pups are among like-minded furry friends so they can be their most confident doggie selves. Our playrooms include:
- Romper Room: For young, large breeds with more playtime energy.
- Toy Box: For smaller breeds who don’t want large pups towering over them.
- Gym: For older, calmer dogs who incorporate resting into their playtime.
When designing each playroom, we closely examined how to meet each dog’s needs best so they could play comfortably and safely. In each playroom, you’ll find:
- Compressed rubberized flooring to aid in healthy hips, joints, and paw pads.
- Floor-to-ceiling soundproof walls.
- Double-barrier doors for controlled entries and exits.
- Advanced dedicated outdoor air HVAC systems with outdoor-only air intake that circulate fresh, clean air, reduce the risk of airborne illnesses, and keep our playrooms climate-controlled at an ideal playing temperature.
At Dogtopia of Birmingham - Parkside, we take pride in ensuring that each playroom is clean and sparkling. Our team performs a deep cleaning of each playroom, sanitizing all surfaces twice daily using chemical-free cleaning products that are safe to use around dogs. We adhere to strict protocols developed by Dogtopia’s Environmental Biologist and Veterinary Scientist to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.
In addition to our indoor playrooms, we have an ample, secure outdoor space for pups to enjoy. When the weather cooperates, we’ll rotate each playroom in the morning and afternoon. It is important to note that we never mix play groups and maintain our safety protocols to ensure all pups are always with their like-minded pals.
EXPERT CANINE COACHES AT DOGTOPIA OF BIRMINGHAM-PARKSIDE
Multiple Canine Coaches are in each playroom during the day to ensure our overnight doggie guests are safe, supervised, and having a tail-wagging good time. To become a Canine Coach, they must first complete a custom curriculum that includes up-to-date material on how to safely interact with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Our Coaches are almost like doggie mind readers, as they can read the room and pick up on slight changes of body language, intervening when necessary to prevent any unwanted behavior.

LIVE DOGGY PLAYROOM WEBCAMS AT DOGTOPIA
Whether it’s overnight or for an extended stay, being able to check up on your pup is always reassuring. That’s why we have HD webcams that livestream directly to Dogtopia’s free mobile app and website. No matter where you are, if you can access the internet, you can access our livestreams. The only time we turn off our webcams is between 12-2:00 p.m. for some privacy while our pups sleep and eat, as well as overnight.
PASSING OUR MEET & GREET ASSESSMENT
The term “assessment” might seem a bit nerve-wracking, but our Meet & Greet is really just a chance for us to meet you and your pup. After all, we want each pup in our facility to have the Most Exciting Day Ever in our care, and that starts with our team of evaluators ensuring that our off-leash, open-play space is a good fit for your dog.
We’ll start by performing a nose-to-tail wellness check and review your pup’s health history. Next, our team will test your pup’s comfort level in our home-style crates, which is where your pup will stay overnight (unless you opt for one of our suites), and we’ll bring in some pups from daycare to create a mini play space and observe how your dog interacts with them. During this time, we’ll also show you around our facility and answer your questions about our services.

Our facility is located at 1200 2nd Ave S, in Downtown Birmingham, Alabama, in the Parkside district, with easy access to and from Interstate 65, which is a block away from our store. We are also just two blocks away from Regions Field and close to local breweries, restaurants, and coffee shops.
We proudly welcome pet parents from downtown Birmingham, including Parkside, Five Points South, and Central Business District, as well as nearby Birmingham neighborhoods like Forest Park, Avondale, and Lakeview. Only a short drive to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, you can drop your pup off at our facility before your trip.
