What Happens at Dog Day Care When it Snows?
Oh Michigan. How you trick us with warm days in November, followed by a solid 6 inches of snow out of the blue. As heavy, wet snow covers our beautiful state in a blanket of white, our thoughts turn to our furry friends in Bloomfield Hills & Utica. What does YOUR pup want to do on snowy days? Is your dog a ‘snow dog’ like the huskies that come to our Bloomfield Hills location, or does your pup prefer to hold down the sofa in a nice warm house? Either way, we have you covered- our open play dog day care is the perfect way for your dog to get some exercise without you having to walk them extensively in the cold.
Breeds like huskies and malamutes long for our cold, snowy winters in Michigan. Sweet Lola, a gorgeous husky that comes in for doggy day care at our Bloomfield Hills location, was absolutely thrilled to romp around our outdoor play area during the heavy snow this weekend. Believe it or not, our luxurious outdoor play space has a heated floor- not that you can tell from these pictures! When snow is coming down heavily, sometimes it takes a little while for the snow to melt off. Dogs, much like little kids, get a certain amount of joy from the first big snow, rushing headlong into the heavy flakes and snow drifts, seemingly excited by the new experience of rushing around in the cold. When we have cold loving breeds we love seeing them peel around at full speed in our outdoor play area during doggy day care or for those lucky pups who are staying with us for overnight dog boarding. But what about those dogs who take their tentative first step into the snow and decide that it’s not their cup of tea? We have them covered too! Our indoor open-play dog day care centers are a perfect way for those warmth craving dogs to get some exercise during the colder fall/winter days without having to experience any discomfort from snowy paws.
For some pet parents, snow is the harbinger of bad behavior. Some dogs really dislike having to “do their business” outside when there are a few inches of snow on the ground. Can you blame them? Toy breeds and smaller dogs can find themselves up to the belly in our deep Michigan snows, and the discomfort that follows that might prompt a regression of behavior and cause ‘accidents’ in the house. There are some suggestions on how to handle this in this Vet Street article, but savvy southeastern Michigan pet parents are turning to smart solutions like dog day care to ensure that their rugs stay clean while Fido is hesitant to go outdoors. With attentive staff and options to either go into our secure, heated outdoor play area or stay inside our doggy gym rooms, your pup is going to love weathering the cold weather with us- and you will too! We’ve heard from our clients at our Bloomfield location time and time again that they love having their dog stay with us for dog day care, but they especially love it during these wintery spells when it’s unpleasant for dogs & people to be outside.
Does your dog love snow, or do they prefer the warmth of the indoors? We’d love to meet you and your pup and take your for a tour of our facilities, either at our Bloomfield Hills or Utica location, and soon to open Birmingham and Commerce! If you haven’t already, contact us to schedule a meet & greet and we’ll show you why Dogtopia is the BEST choice for dog day care in Southeastern Michigan!
