WHAT YOUR DOG CAN EXPECT AT DAYCARE

We prioritize socialization, education, and exercise during the 8-10 hours of off-leash, open play that pups enjoy. Racking up to 60,000 steps in a day, our daycare dogs build their cardio and strength, and we have a ton of fun activities like agility-focused exercises and obstacle courses, as well as secure play structures like ramps, climbers, and tunnels that add to an enriching playroom environment.

In addition to physical activity, education and mind stimulation are essential to daycare. We like to think of it like doggy school, as we have several brain games to strengthen their problem-solving skills. Our team is there to facilitate all the learning fun so we can ensure pups are properly engaged in the task at hand (or, in this case, paw). They also practise several basic training techniques, like “follow the leader” or door control, that get our dogs’ minds thinking. These activities combined help maintain a sharp mind and improve behavior.

During this time, our dogs socialize with one another, allowing them to tap into their natural pack instinct, where they can form bonds with their BFFFs (Best Furry Friends Forever). Proper socialization is important, as many dogs need a safe space to work on their confidence so they can approach unknown situations without fear or intimidation. OUR DAYCARE SCHEDULE

Here’s what is on a typical itinerary at Dogtopia of Wheat Ridge.

7 a.m.: Our doors open, and daycare is officially in session. Our morning crowd makes their way in, and all the playtime fun begins, including exercises, brain games, and socialization with furry friends.

Noon: We break for lunch so our pups can recharge their batteries and have some “me time” to chill in their home-style crates in the same playroom. Our team will prepare lunch during this time and administer any necessary medication as directed by the pet parent.

2 p.m.: It’s time to return to the Most Exciting Day Ever! Pups feel refreshed and ready to hit the replay button from the first half of the day. We also mix in some of our themed activities to add to the fun.

Pick-up time: When this time rolls around, our pups are happily played out and ready to drift off to sleep, likely in the car ride home—we call it the Dogtopia Daze!

During your dog’s day, take advantage of our spa services and pamper your furry family member. We have various treatments that will make your pup look and feel their best, such as baths, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and more. Allow our spa experts to take the reins and help maintain your pup’s hygiene routine.

PREMIER DOG PLAYROOMS IN WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO

To ensure our daycare pups feel comfortable in our space, we’ve divided our facility into four separate playrooms across 4,200 square feet. Each playroom is based on the size, temperament, and play style of each furry guest, which ensures they play with like-minded friends. That means smaller breeds can be at eye level with their furry pals and not in the shadows of larger breeds, while our larger dogs and senior pups can enjoy the space to run and play. The medium-sized dogs that fall somewhere in between also enjoy their own playroom where their fun playtime vibes are maintained.

Each playroom has been constructed with dogs’ needs in mind:

• Compressed rubber flooring: While dogs can’t wear the same comfy running shoes as their human counterparts, our flooring is the next best thing. The material is comfortable on their paw pads and helps maintain hip and joint health. Plus, it’s easy to clean, non-absorbent, and odor-resistant, helping us maintain our clean environment. Unlike gravel or cement, which our competitors may opt for, our flooring is a safe, comfortable choice.
• Floor-to-ceiling walls: Our playrooms are contained to prevent distractions from neighboring pups, which is not possible with dividers or fencing that many other dog daycares use.
• Double-barrier doors: As an extra layer of security, this playroom component ensures a secure space before our facility’s hallway.
• HVAC system: This top-of-the-line system continuously circulates clean, fresh air throughout our playrooms. It also helps us climate-control our space to maintain a comfortable 65-70 degrees. Colorado may be known for its snow, but it won’t affect your pup’s playtime at our facility!
• Webcams: We’ve equipped live HD webcams in each playroom so you can check in on all the playtime fun. Our livestreams are available on Dogtopia’s app and website but will be paused during naps and lunchtime while our team cleans the playrooms.. Prepare to see lots of tail wags and adorable smiles when they are running throughout the rest of the day!

Cleanliness is of utmost importance to us. Our team strictly adheres to the guidelines established by Dogtopia’s Environmental Biologist and Veterinary Scientist to ensure that our playrooms remain clean and maintained throughout the day. We use doggie-safe cleaning products to sanitize all playroom surfaces twice daily. In the instance there is an accidental potty mishap during playtime, we turn to our bio-enzymatic spot cleaner, which is a safe way to remove any stains or odors. Pet parents can rest assured that our cleaning process uses no hazardous chemicals, so their furry family members are safe to get back to playing after our cleans.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS AT OUR DOGGIE DAYCARE

Creating a safe dog facility is paramount. Our Canine Coaches are in each playroom to supervise, interact, and observe to ensure all pups play appropriately and engage with the activities we facilitate. Thanks to their comprehensive four-part training curriculum, which has been approved for continuing education credits by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, our coaches are skilled in managing large groups of dogs of different ages, sizes, and breeds.

This training equips our Coaches with the skills to read dog body language and can pick up on cues that indicate when pups may need a break from the playtime action or when they need assistance making friends. The more our Coaches get to know your dog and their personality with repeat daycare visits, the more personalized care we can offer, which is outlined in our periodic report cards that detail how your pup behaved during daycare and which furry friends they made.

Speaking of our evaluation process, one of the initial steps we take to ensure a safe space is via our Meet & Greet. Our team of evaluators will meet with your pup at our facility and determine if daycare is the right fit. Although an “evaluation” might seem nerve-wracking, we promise this is just a chance to meet you and your furry family member and let your pup test drive what they can expect at daycare.

First, we’ll conduct a health history overview to ensure your dog is healthy and has an up-to-date vaccination record before performing a nose-to-tail wellness check (a way to assess for any touch sensitivities). All dogs at our facility must be vaccinated, including for Bordetella, Rabies, and DHLPP/DHPP (also known as “distemper/parvo”). Our team will inform you if the canine influenza vaccine is required before booking. During this time, we will also ensure your pup meets the following requirements Dogtopia has set in place:

• At least 12 weeks old
• Spayed or neutered if seven months and older
• No communicable conditions (including ticks or fleas) and in good health for the last 30 days
• Non-aggressive and not food- or toy-protective

Next, we’ll move on to a mini play space, where we will bring in a couple of like-minded dogs from daycare to observe how your pup responds. We’ll be checking for body language and overall interest in others. Because our daycare dogs nap in our home-style crates, we will also determine their comfort level during this assessment.

Once we complete our evaluation, we’ll let you know if your pup is ready to start having a blast with their new furry friends. If we determine that daycare is a good fit for your dog, they can begin immediately. However, if we feel that our environment isn’t quite suitable yet, we encourage you to try again at a later date when your pup feels more comfortable socializing with others. We’ll work with you to find the best solution for your furry friend.
