Even Heroes Need Heroes
We are committed to uniting service dogs with military veterans. We do this by generating awareness of the benefits of service dogs, and hosting fundraisers throughout the year so we can help sponsor their training. Thanks to the continuous generosity of our pet parents and community supporters, we're making an impact.
We're honored to highlight our furry, four-legged heroes who have graduated from training as loyal, hardworking companions for the brave men and women who served our country. It's hard work to become a service dog for a veteran and only the best make the cut. The need for service dogs among veterans is great and with your support, we hope to sponsor many more.
MEET OUR SERVICE DOGS
Paul
America's Vet Dogs
08/16/2023
Paul is our first sponsored Service Dog through America's Vet Dogs!
We began raising funds for our first Service Dog through The Dogtopia Foundation in January of 2022. We began to ramp up our fundraising efforts in May of 2022 through our daily events that wonderful pet parents like you have participated in! From Meatball Mondays, Frozen Treat Fridays, to our themed Photoshoots, we managed to raise over $6,000.00 in as little as 6 months!
We chose America's Vet Dogs for our sponsored Service Dog because of their wide range of work with veterans and first responders with various health needs. America's Vet Dogs works to trains Service Dogs to help with veterans who are visually impaired, blind, suffering from PTSD, hearing impaired are in active military, or physically disabled.
In April 2023, we were introduced to Paul. Paul is a lab x golden retriever cross, born in December 2021. Paul began his journey to becoming a Service Dog with learning basic obedience like paw and sit (paw is his favorite command!). Then he began training to complete small tasks like hitting push plates to open doors and retrieving phones. Finally, Paul worked his way up to practicing his tasks in an apartment on the training campus to simulate what life will be like once he is in his permanent home.
In August of 2023, Paul graduated from his training program and successfully matched with a veteran. Paul's new owner is a veteran of the army; serving during the Cold War, SEASIA, and other campaigns. Paul will happily reside in North Carolina and continue to work to provide assistance to his new owner.
We are so proud of Paul and all that he has accomplished. We are also very grateful to all of the wonderful people who have donated money to support our Dogtopia Foundation that made this happen.
