Canine Influenza Vaccine Requirement
Our number one priority is the health and safety of your pup. With this in mind, we will be
requiring the Canine Influenza (Dog Flu) vaccination to bring your pup to Dogtopia. It’s
important to note, that while the vaccination does not guarantee a dog won’t get the flu, it is
proven to reduce the severity of the flu symptoms, the duration of symptoms and the time a
dog can spread the flu virus.
You may have heard recent reports of positive cases of Dog Flu in various places around the
country. While this virus is not contagious humans, it is contagious from dog to dog with direct
contact. Pups who visit social settings like dog parks and daycare centers may have a higher
chance at contracting the Dog Flu. In order to reduce the chance of your pup contracting the
virus, we are requiring our furry friends to be current on the Dog Flu vaccine.
The initial vaccination requires two doses, given 2-4 weeks apart. Following the second dose, the vaccine
needs to be boosted annually.
When is the “Dog Flu” vaccine required?
03/01/2023 is the date we will begin requiring all dogs to have the initial vaccine. The booster will be required in order to attend daycare, grooming or boarding. The vaccine consists of two shots, 2-4 weeks apart. We will require all dogs to have their second vaccination completed by 4/15/2023.
Can my pup come to Dogtopia during this vaccination process?
Yes, your pup is welcome to attend daycare or boarding during this vaccination process.
However, if your pup has shown any signs of the dog flu, they must remain at home until your
veterinarian determines your pup is no longer contagious As you will see during our check-in
process, we are asking each client a series of questions to minimize the risk of the dog flu virus
entering our facility.
