At our dog daycare everyone goes through hours of training to understand dog behavior.  Within the article – How to pet a dog the right way –  we found some interesting facts about dogs – with much of their thoughts from this study –“Behavioral and cardiac responses by dogs to physical human–dog contact”.

Highlights – avoid direct eye contact, let the dog initiate the first contact, don’t pet the head or face, be gentle, and don’t hug.

I think its mainly for new dogs – because I know my furry ones love to be pet around their head from me.
