Help Your Dog Live Longer: Join the Dog Aging Project
April 2, 2025The Dog Aging Project is a large-scale research study led by leading scientists and veterinarians from the University of Washington and Texas A&M University, in collaboration with private veterinary practices and multiple universities. Supported by the National Institute on Aging (part of the NIH) and private donors, this project focuses on two primary goals:
-
Understanding how genetics, lifestyle, and environment impact canine aging.
-
Finding ways to extend dogs’ health span—the period of life spent in good health.
How Does It Work?
The Dog Aging Project invites dogs of all breeds, ages, sizes, and health conditions to participate. Enrolled dogs stay at home with their families while owners complete simple, annual surveys about their dog’s health, lifestyle, environment, and medical history. This data helps researchers build a lifetime health profile for each dog, contributing to groundbreaking research on healthy aging.
Why Should You Enroll Your Dog?
By enrolling your dog, you can make a lasting impact on the future of canine health. Your participation helps scientists discover how to help dogs live longer and healthier lives, while also providing valuable insights that may benefit human aging research.
Additionally, as a participant, you’ll gain access to the Dog Aging Project community, resources, and updates on the latest findings.
