5 Summer Foods Dangerous For Your Dog
The time for barbecues and patio parties is here! It’s just not a summer without eating and drinking but some of our seasonal favourites can be dangerous to our dogs who are just trying to have a great summer too!
1. Avocado
One of the trendiest foods right now and the key ingredient in the summer staple: guacamole. Avocado contains a toxin called persin which can be harmful to your dog when ingested. The large seed in the avocado is also a hazard for choking and intestinal obstruction.
2. Chicken and rib bones
Cooked bones become brittle and when chewed, the shards can cause damage in your dog’s throat or stomach. Think twice about letting your dog share your barbecue.
3. Ice cream
Although some dogs can eat dairy just fine, it can cause intestinal problems for many. You might find yourself dealing with some diarrhea or just a very gassy dog.
4. Onions
Onions contain thiosulphate which is toxic for your pup. Eating onions can cause damage to your dog’s red blood cells so you can still have your blooming onions, but not your dog.
5. Alcohol
There are some dogs gutsy enough to go for an unattended drink. Dogs don’t have the same kind of tolerance to alcohol as we do so remember to drink responsibly for both you and your dog this summer!
